With the new year come the typical winter days, when temperatures sometimes don't even reach zero during the day. The winter mornings, when you can see your own breath and the whole of nature is covered in a layer of powdered sugar, are picturesque, but this weather often puts our four-legged friends in a particularly good mood and explosiveness.
In order not to endanger everyone involved, we recommend that our horses be allowed out on a regular basis despite the low temperatures. Horses cope with the cold much better than we humans do, so horses feel much more comfortable outside in the fresh air than inside in a warm stable. Of course, this should always be considered on an individual basis. Most healthy horses can get by without a blanket in cold, dry weather. Older and sick horses often benefit from a warm blanket. Sport horses with very little fur or clipped horses should also be covered.
Magnesium and tryptophan can contribute to inner peace.
Despite being able to move freely in the paddock or on the pasture, some horses get high-spirited even when working in cold temperatures. Our Reliable Horse can help to provide more peace and relaxation thanks to the effective combination of magnesium, vitamin B12 and L-tryptophan. For stressed, nervous or hectic horses, the Reliable Horse can also be a good support and contribute to greater well-being regardless of the outside temperature. Stress and excitement can upset the stomach, just like with us humans. So if you want to support the digestive tract of your nervous horse, Hestevard ProSetol is the best option. In addition to magnesium and tryptophan, ProSetol supports the intestinal tract with the live yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae .[1]
Especially in cold weather – warm up properly!
Nevertheless, the horses should be warmed up sufficiently, especially in cold temperatures, to avoid damage to the musculoskeletal system. We recommend riding or leading for at least 10 to 15 minutes at a walk before work begins. The horses can really burn off energy when running freely. However, if they are not warmed up, this can lead to unpleasant injuries, which we want to avoid.
Healthy tendons and joints – preventing damage
If you want to do something good for your horse's musculoskeletal system as a preventative measure, Hestevard Hesteflex is a good choice. The combination of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate provides the natural building blocks of the joint. MSM and Indian frankincense support the body's own anti-inflammatory processes. Vitamin E and vitamin C also contribute to joint protection through their antioxidant effect. Hestevard BozMerix can also help with acute joint problems, such as existing arthritis. Older horses also benefit from the anti-inflammatory effect of microencapsulated curcumin in combination with omega-3 fatty acids and ASU (avocado/soybean unsaponifiables).[2], [3]
